Contemporary Abstract collage
蜂鸟ⅤPNappI am an artist and former CA Bay Area native residing in the beautiful Northern California foothills. My contemporary abstract collage paintings make use of my most favorite components of design: line, shape, and color. By focusing on those simple elements, I am able to translate more abstract ideas into something a little more concrete. Collage enables me to get my ideas out of my head and into the world.
If pressed to say what my art is about, I'd say it is about solving puzzles that have no box tops! I tend to bring unrelated ideas together to try and form some kind of a picture in my mind, maybe even a narrative of sorts. I don't always know what the final piece will look like, hence the "no box top" analogy. But, I use colors and shapes and lines to work all of that out. As an artist, it's my job to find solutions. In the end, the collages always have personal meaning for me but I hope that on a broader and more accessible level, the universal nature of the geometric shapes, colors, and lines allows viewers to freely engage with each piece and to put their own individual spin on things, connecting with each work in a unique way. It's this dual nature of the collage pieces that I love the most. They belong to me and but also to the viewer.
